Arturo Fuente OpusX Reserva D Chateau Cigar Review
Arturo Fuente OpusX Reserva D Chateau Cigar Review This 7×48 cigar features a dark brown soft and spongy wrapper with a fairly rustic roll, minimal veins, tight invisible seams, triple cap, oily paper bag feel and faint pepper and tobacco aroma. First light reveals a very full body smoke with a light draw giving flavors of a smooth musty, deep and earthy tobacco, bit of sweetness and big oil through the finish. The first third shows more full bodied flavor with a very smooth complex blend of twangy flavors. That’s what I call a combo of black pepper, slight cayenne and citrus! The core is a smooth deep earth and tobacco, mixing well with the twang through the long finish. Smoke output and draw is excellent. 30 minutes in just hitting the 2nd third, body goes down a bit to medium-full, shifting to a very creamy smooth textured cinnamon and pepper with the same nice tobacco and zing. 45 minutes at the 1/2 way point flavors remain unchanged, the burn is razor sharp, smoke output is plentiful and thick, and the strength finally starts coming in, making me a bit light headed. 55 minutes in ending the 2nd third, flavors shift a bit dropping down the heavier earth replacing it with a nice creamy taste to go along with it’s texture. The cream goes very well with the sweet cinnamonish flavors and pepper zing through the finish. Ending at 1:15 the last bit showed no further changes, simply continuing the great performance. First!! Love ur vids
Quick question: I’m a new cigar guy and I’m having trouble with lighting. Alot of the time the very beginning of my cigars taste very strange…could it be the lighter I’m using? Is it that important to use a good “torch” lighter?
Thanks!
Wowzer! Lol 11+ mins, I don’t think iv seen one this long. Though it was an OpusX so I think it justifies it. Just curious what was the special occasion to break out the premium?
Definitely hate the dizzy ammonia feeling, probably should let the sticks rest longer.
where can i see the tobacco fermentation videos????
humidor tour!! humidor tour!! humidor tour!!!!
@NathanTBlack Are you using a zippo?
@alherchenreder He had a few minutes on fermentation. Like he said, even if you let them rest longer not much will change.
tour your humidor !!!!!!
I have Opus Xs from 2005 that still have the same kick. I love them, but they don’t make me sick. Like you said most ‘aging’ has better gain with cheaper sticks. Really appreciate you doing these reviews even though you obviously aren’t the biggest fan of them. Keep up the great work. Happy Holidays.
@NathanTBlack Having fallen back to using a BIC on a few occasions where I’ve forgotten or even lost my butane lighters, I can tell you that it definitely depends on the type of gas your lighter uses. Standard gas lighters will leave a very sour/bitter taste for about a third of the cigar, which is a huge amount. Buying even a even a cheap novelty butane lighter will improve your smoking experience greatly. It’s not so much the lighter/type of flame as it is the fuel.
I love the cigar 101 lecture section in the video. I could go for more of those! Very interesting.
BG, where is the video of the “Dominican blogger” who talks about fermentation at? I’d love to watch that so I can learn more.
Thanks.
@jfjlbruce1 look back a few weeks, it was in October
@victory01 Of course not! See the lighter reviews on the site
@alherchenreder I’ve done tons of longer ones than this
The more complex the cigar, the more there is to say…
No special occasion, just grabbing something I saw.
@NathanTBlack See my How To Smoke video for lots of info on that…
Wish i could get my hands on one
